Richard & Daniel

An alternative same-sex elopement ceremony on a sailboat in Barcelona

We met up with Richard and Daniel just a couple of days before their elopement ceremony. We met for tapas and arranged the final details while toasting their arrival in the beautiful city and the event we had been planning together for the past months.

This couple chose Barcelona for its sunny weather, unique architecture and because it is such an LGBTQ+ friendly city.

On the day of the elopement, Daniel and Richard wondered around the old streets of the city, through the Gothic Quarter and historical centre of Barcelona.

After visiting Parc de la Ciutadella for photos, they walk to the harbour, where they met their wedding officiant and boarded a sailboat together, ready for their sunset ceremony.

Richard and Daniel knew that they wanted to have their ceremony somewhere private and intimate and the sailboat responded to their requirements.

Daniel and Richard wrote personal vows to each other, and after reading them aloud to each other, were announced as newlyweds and kissed as the sun was setting in the background.

After the ceremony, they opened a bottle of champagne and a wedding cake was brought up for them to celebrated together on board as they sailed back towards the city at dusk.

After their romantic ceremony in Barcelona, the Richard and Daniel headed off on a cruise for their honeymoon, and back home in Florida, they threw a wedding party where they showed to their family and friends their elopement video and pictures

The wedding video won the Junebug Wedding prize “Best video 2019”.
